Distinguishing Features
Height 60cm (23in), Male mostly white sparsely specked with black. Female (pictured) is slightly larger with a heavier black mottling. Eyes are yellow.
Food
Mainly small mammals, occasionally large animals such as rabbits and birds.

Nesting
Between May July. Clutch of 3 to 9 eggs. Incubation appx 30 days. Eggs tended by female only, female tending chicks in the fist 3 weeks, both parents feeding until fledged.
Habitat

Arctic tundra, very rare visitor to GB and Eire.

Other information

The Snowy Owl successful breed in the Shetlands Isles in the late 60's - early 70's.

Sightings of the Snowy Owl in GB are sadly very rare indeed.

Normally breeding grounds are North America, Northern Russia and Scandanavia.
