Whether you live in the heart of the country, the centre of a town or city; you will have been regularly visited by a variety of birds.

No doubt, the town and city dwellers will have come across the ubiquitous Black Bird or House Sparrow and of course the ever present flock of Starlings and Pigeons.

Country dwellers will have the opportunity to see a wider variety of birds, some quite rare, however, attracting more species of birds to your garden whether they are urbanised, or rural, apply two golden rules.

  • Give them what they want the most.
  • Be patient.

Nesting boxes and a supply of regular food is one obvious method for attracting new species to your garden; water is another major factor. Birds can be fussy about what they eat so providing the correct foods will determine which species visit. Providing water for drinking and cleaning will also help to make your garden a bird friendly environment.

This section of Nativebirds will give you the knowledge, and help you to make informed decisions to attract new birds to your garden.

Good luck.
